How We Engage

We structure engagements to match the complexity of the problem and the needs of the organization. Every engagement begins with a conversation — not a proposal.

Starting the Conversation

Before any engagement begins, we spend time understanding your environment, your goals, and your constraints. This isn’t a sales process — it’s a diagnostic one. We want to understand what you’re actually dealing with before we recommend anything.

Initial consultations are free and confidential. We’ll ask direct questions and give you direct answers.

Engagement Models

Strategic Advisory

For organizations that need senior-level technology guidance on an ongoing basis — without the overhead of a full-time executive hire.

This model is well-suited for:

  • Organizations navigating a major technology decision or modernization initiative
  • Leadership teams that need an independent technical voice alongside internal staff
  • Companies evaluating vendors, platforms, or architectural approaches
  • Organizations preparing for compliance audits or security assessments

Structure: Regular advisory sessions, on-call availability for critical decisions, and written assessments as needed. Typically structured as a monthly retainer.

Fractional CTO

For organizations that need executive-level technology leadership — either because they don’t have a CTO, their CTO role is vacant, or they need supplemental senior capacity during a critical period.

This model is well-suited for:

  • Companies between CTO hires
  • Organizations scaling rapidly and needing technology leadership to keep pace
  • Federal contractors needing a senior technical lead for a specific program or proposal
  • Startups and growth-stage companies that need CTO-level guidance without a full-time commitment

Structure: Defined hours per week or month, participation in leadership meetings, ownership of technology strategy and architecture decisions. Scope defined at engagement start.

Project-Based Engagements

For organizations with a defined problem and a clear scope — a modernization initiative, a security architecture review, a systems integration project, or a specific software development effort.

This model is well-suited for:

  • Legacy modernization and cloud migration projects
  • Security architecture reviews and compliance gap assessments
  • Systems integration design and implementation
  • Custom software development for specific operational needs
  • AI readiness assessments and implementation projects

Structure: Fixed scope, defined deliverables, and a clear timeline. We work alongside your team or independently, depending on your preference and internal capacity.

Government & Federal Engagements

ASP holds government contract qualifications and has experience working within federal procurement frameworks. We understand the requirements, timelines, and compliance expectations of public sector engagements.

For federal agencies, defense contractors, and organizations pursuing government contracts, we offer:

  • Technical advisory for federal IT modernization programs
  • Security architecture and compliance alignment (NIST 800-53, CMMC, FedRAMP, DoD)
  • Program support and technical subject matter expertise
  • Contract vehicle and qualification documentation available upon request

What to Expect

Honesty over comfort. We will tell you what we find, not what you want to hear. If your current approach is creating risk, we’ll name it. If a proposed technology doesn’t fit your environment, we’ll say so.

Senior practitioners, not junior staff. Every engagement is led and executed by experienced technologists. We don’t use your project to train junior consultants.

Discretion. We understand that many of our clients operate in sensitive environments. We treat all client information with the same care we apply to our own.

No unnecessary complexity. We design solutions that fit your environment and your team’s ability to operate them. The simplest solution that solves the problem is usually the right one.
